Depending
on who you're talking to or what map you're looking at, Upper Captiva
Island might also be called North Captiva. In fact, prior to 1921
the island was part of Sanibel/Captiva. Then, on Oct. 25, 1921,
a fierce hurricane cut the island in two and Upper or North Captiva
was born.To
this day, the area remains in an unspoiled state since no bridge
connects the island with the mainland.
The
north end of Upper Captiva Island is divided into several areas
as noted on the map.
The
State of Florida Nature Preserve is off to the right (south), and
Safety Harbor is where the water taxis from the mainland will deliver
you to our docks.
